## Scope

United Kingdom. The regulator's guidance says informed consent can only be given by a client who has had the chance to consider a range of reasonable options, including euthanasia and monitoring without further treatment, with fee estimates and the main risks explained; that the client's consent to treatment must be obtained; and that ordinarily the veterinary surgeon undertaking the procedure is expected to discuss it with the client and obtain consent, delegating only to someone suitably trained. Guidance under the regulator's code; it does not mention software.

## What this means

In the UK, the conversation with the owner about options, cost and consent is the treating vet's responsibility.

## What it does not show yet

Regulator guidance for one country; it allows delegation to trained staff and says nothing about tools used before or after the visit.

## How to verify it yourself

Open RCVS supporting guidance chapter 11 and find "the client's consent to treatment must be obtained".
