## Scope

Ontario, Canada. The regulator's policy says physicians must engage in a dialogue with the patient or substitute decision-maker and answer their questions before obtaining consent, that a physician may ask another health-care provider to obtain consent only if assured that provider has the knowledge, skill and judgement required, and that the physicians involved in the treatment are ultimately responsible for the consent being obtained. Reviewed and updated March 2025 (month only). It does not mention AI and covers consent to treatment, not every decision.

## What this means

In Ontario, talking a patient through a treatment decision is the doctor's duty, delegable only to another qualified person.

## What it does not show yet

It covers consent to treatment and says nothing about AI.

## How to verify it yourself

Open the CPSO policy 'Consent to Treatment' and find "ultimately responsible for the consent being obtained".
