## Scope

Germany, illustrators invited through the Illustratoren Organisation and social media; 856 respondents, online questionnaire from 12 June to 5 September 2025, run by a research agency to ISO 20252. Almost two-thirds (63%) said they feel effects on their illustration business that can be traced to AI image generators, far more than in 2023 (when the question asked about effects clearly traceable to them); among those whose main field is editorial the figure is 73% (n=44), and 69% in corporate communication. Free-text examples include fewer commissions and lower pay. None of the illustrators said they produce final work mainly with generative AI. It reports perceived effects, not measured income or commissions.

## What this means

In Germany too, the change illustrators report is on the client side: commissions and fees under pressure from generated images, not illustrators handing their own work to a machine.

## What it does not show yet

Self-reported perceptions from a members-and-social-media sample; the editorial subgroup is 44 people, the 2023 question was worded differently, and nothing here measures lost income.
