# Figma reported that in March 2026 it began enforcing the AI credit limits it had introduced across all its seats in 2025, and started selling credit add-ons and pay-as-you-go usage

## Scope

The filing establishes metering, not its effect. Figma states it introduced AI credits across all seats during 2025 and began enforcing the limits in March 2026, selling monthly add-ons or pay-as-you-go usage beyond them; the filing names the month, not a day. It reports no usage figure for Figma Make or Dev Mode. It says only that, after enforcement began, it saw more support requests, some public dissatisfaction and reduced usage by certain customers, with no measurement of how much. Figma sells these seats, so it has an interest in how a pricing change is presented — but the fact recorded here, that generating an interface from a design now costs metered credits rather than being included in the seat, is stated in a filing where overstating carries liability. It says nothing about tools from other vendors, and nothing about in-house pipelines.

## What this means

The tool that turns a design into an interface now runs on a meter. Until March 2026 the AI features sat inside a seat someone had already bought; since then the generation itself is a consumable, with add-ons and pay-as-you-go beyond the included credits. For a frontend developer that changes the shape of the question from what the tool can produce to how much of it the team is willing to buy — and it puts a line item in front of whoever approves the spend.

## What it does not show yet

It does not measure how much anyone generates. Neither filing gives a usage figure for Figma Make or Dev Mode; the later one says only that usage fell for certain customers once the limits were enforced, without saying how much — the record fixes the price of this automation, not its extent. It also covers one vendor's product: teams using another tool, or a pipeline they built themselves, are outside it.

## How to verify it yourself

Open your own team's Figma billing page and read two numbers: how many AI credits the seat includes, and how many are left this month. Then ask whoever owns the subscription whether an add-on has been bought since March. That tells you what your organisation actually spends on turning designs into code — a figure no filing publishes, and the one that decides how much of this task a machine does where you work.
