Where this applies
One US hospital, the first to buy the product, announcing it in its own newsroom. Caption AI, in the hospital's words, emulates the expertise of a sonographer by giving real-time guidance on how to position and move the probe, shows how close the image is to diagnostic quality and records it automatically when it gets there; it also calculates ejection fraction. The systems were in the emergency department, the medical intensive care unit and a cardio-oncology clinic, and in use by the hospital medicine group, so that clinicians including those without prior ultrasound experience can perform the scans. The hospital's cardiovascular institute helped develop and validate the product and ran the trial behind its FDA authorisation, so it has a stake in the result. The release gives no counts of scans or users and is from 2020; it does not say whether the systems are still in use.
What this means
