Where this applies
A paper by Meta staff about test generation in Meta's own engineering. It says mutation-guided LLM-based hardening test generation is already deployed in Meta's continuous integration system, that the earlier coverage-based generator has been deployed and regularly evolved at Meta for two years, and that across 22,126 generated catching tests, rule-based and LLM assessors cut human review load by 70%. The authors say the catching workflows themselves were deployed mainly to collect data, and the paper gives inconsistent counts of confirmed catches; Meta builds these tools for its own use.
What this means
Writing tests is becoming something generated inside the build system at one of the largest engineering organisations, with people reviewing a filtered share of what the machine proposes. The case-writing half of the job is moving; judging which failures matter is not.
What it does not yet show
One company's own tools and data; it does not show fewer testers or how common this is elsewhere.
What you can check
Open arXiv:2601.22832 and find "We have already deployed mutation-guided LLM-based hardening test generation".
Does it change the assessment?
No. The impact index is never moved by a single event. Nor did this record change a layer: all 1 linked judgement above already rested on earlier evidence. This one adds to them.
