Tasks this bears on
Positioning the patient and setting up
Placing the patient and the equipment so the right part of the body is imaged, choosing the protocol and setting the exposure.
Being augmented✓ Evidence-backed
Running the scan and checking the images
Operating the X-ray, CT or MRI system, watching the patient as the images come in, and deciding whether each image is good enough or has to be repeated before the patient leaves.

Where this applies
The US Veterans Health Administration's own entries in the 2025 federal inventory of AI use, each marked Deployed. On a GE MRI system, the operator interface offers options for selecting AIR Recon DL and adjusting the level of image noise reduction; Siemens MAGNETOM MRI systems output denoised images; TrueFidelity deep-learning image reconstruction is listed for CT. For X-ray, a Siemens system's AI mapping calculates paths for moving the equipment between positions, which the entry says increases workflow efficiency in positioning the equipment. The descriptions largely follow the manufacturers' regulatory wording; there are no site counts, dates or measures of how radiographers' work changed, and positioning here means the equipment, not the patient.
What this means
In one of the largest US health systems, the scanners a radiographer operates now reconstruct and denoise images with deep learning, and X-ray equipment plans its own moves. The operator still chooses the settings and positions the patient.
What it does not yet show
It lists equipment, not use: no site counts, no measure of scan times or repeat rates, and nothing about radiographer numbers.
What you can check
Open the 2025 Federal Agency AI Use Case Inventory CSV and find use case VA-24-163 (GE Signa Artist); it describes options for selecting AIR Recon DL and adjusting the level of image noise reduction.
Does it change the assessment?
No. The impact index is never moved by a single event. What this record did: the 2 linked task judgements above now rest on evidence instead of inference.
