It says it has already installed over 1.2 million devices, that over the last decade smart metering has helped it detect around 84,000 customer-side leaks, and that around a third of leaks are on customers' and businesses' pipes. An alert or a meter reading says that water is being lost on the customer's side, not where; the company is under leakage targets and quotes its meter suppliers in the release, and it gives no figure for how many of those leaks were then found and fixed by plumbers.
