DeploymentAn employer has put it into production. Can move the baseline — weighted by scale and how similar the setting is.
Tasks this bears on
Underwriting standard applications
Accepting or declining straightforward applications — healthy applicants, small sums, standard small-business risks — against the insurer's rules.
Automating✓ Evidence-backed
Where this applies
The insurer's own annual report on Form 20-F for 2024, filed with the SEC on 26 March 2025; Prudential plc sells life and health insurance mainly in Asia, including Singapore. It states that currently around 96 per cent of new business policies are submitted electronically, 78 per cent adopt electronic payment methods and around 74 per cent are processed through auto-underwriting capabilities, and that it aims to increase straight-through processing. It does not say which products or markets the figure covers, how the remaining policies were underwritten, or whether the number of underwriters changed. One insurer, reporting on its own operations in a filing where overstating carries liability.
What this means
At a large Asian insurer, most new policies are now accepted by rules and models without an underwriter reading them. For an underwriter the job concentrates on what the automation refers out — complex and large risks, unusual cases, and the questions agents ask about them — and on the rules the automation runs on.
What it does not yet show
It does not show which products are auto-underwritten, how accurate the automated decisions are, or any change in how many underwriters the insurer employs.
What you can check
Open Prudential plc's 2024 Form 20-F on SEC EDGAR, search for 'auto-underwriting', and read the sentence on new business policies submitted electronically and processed through auto-underwriting capabilities.
Does it change the assessment?
No. The impact index is never moved by a single event. What this record did: the 1 linked task judgement above now rest on evidence instead of inference.
