Evidence stage
DeploymentAn employer has put it into production. Can move the baseline — weighted by scale and how similar the setting is.
Tasks this bears on
Preparing simple individual returns
Filling in returns for people whose income is mainly a salary and whose reliefs are standard.
Automating✓ Evidence-backed
Gathering income records
Collecting pay slips, commission statements and other income records from clients before a return can be done.

Where this applies
The authority's own newsroom release, dated 10 March 2026. It says over 2 million individual taxpayers are expected to benefit from the No-Filing Service for Year of Assessment 2026, about 1 million of whom receive automatically computed tax bills directly from mid-March under the Direct Notice of Assessment, and that the expansion is made possible by employers and intermediaries — commission-paying organisations and private hire car operators among them — submitting income information on time. It tells taxpayers to verify their income, declare rental and self-employment income, check their reliefs, and amend a computed bill within 30 days or a pre-filled return by filing by 18 April, and says they remain responsible for accuracy. For a tax preparer it establishes how much of the simple individual return one country's tax authority now prepares itself. It says nothing about tax agents — not how many there are, whether these taxpayers used one before, or whether they now pay one to check the bill — and its numbers are the authority's expectations at the start of the season, not a count after it.
What this means
In a country where employers report income to the tax authority, the authority can compute a salaried person's tax itself, and the return a preparer used to fill in for them disappears.
What it does not yet show
It does not show tax agents losing clients or work; it is one tax authority's expectation for one season, and it leaves rental, self-employment and foreign income to the taxpayer.
What you can check
Read the release on the IRAS newsroom and look for the No-Filing Service and Direct Notice of Assessment figures in its first paragraph.
Does it change the assessment?
No. The impact index is never moved by a single event. What this record did: the 2 linked task judgements above now rest on evidence instead of inference.
