Where this applies
The operator's and transport authority's press release on the completion of Paris metro Line 4's automation, fully automatic since December 2023. It says the fleet of trains with drivers has been replaced by as many automatic trains across the whole line; that the control centre has been equipped to communicate at any time with passengers in trains and stations; and that platform doors now run for more than five kilometres across 29 stations. It gives no figures for how many drivers were redeployed or how the control room is staffed, and the operator sells this expertise.
What this means
When the drivers came off Line 4, talking to passengers moved to the control centre: the announcement, the reassurance, the instruction now come from a room that can reach every train. The control-room job is where part of the driver's job went.
