Cleaning robots are expected, but digital tools for checking cleaning and inspecting buildings are little known and not spreading, a Japanese government-funded study found

Evidence stage
ConstraintFailure, rollback, regulation or cost is suppressing adoption. Can lower an assessment or widen its uncertainty.
Tasks this bears on
Noticing what the building is doing
The leak that has not reached the ceiling yet, the door that stopped latching, the smell in the plant room — spotted because you are the only person who walks every part of the building every day.
Still human-led✓ Evidence-backed
Where this applies
Japan. A health-ministry-funded study of digital technology in building hygiene management, from the national public health institute. Its cleaning sub-report finds that cleaning robots are expected to be used, but that information on digital devices for checking how cleaning has been done and for inspection work is limited and they have not spread; inspection is still done by eye by skilled workers. It concerns inspection under building hygiene rules in Japan and does not measure how often cleaners report building problems.
What this means
Where the robots have arrived, the noticing has not been automated: checking what was cleaned and spotting what is wrong with the building is still done by a person's eye, and the digital tools for it have not taken hold.
What it does not yet show
One Japanese study of inspection practice; it covers trained inspectors more than everyday cleaners and does not count reports of leaks or damage.
What you can check
Open the NIPH sub-report on digital technology in cleaning and find 「普及も進んでいない状況が見られる」.
Does it change the assessment?
No. The impact index is never moved by a single event. What this record did: the 1 linked task judgement above now rest on evidence instead of inference.
