Where this applies
An EU directive that member states must transpose by 2 December 2026. Platforms must oversee and regularly evaluate decisions taken or supported by automated monitoring and decision-making systems, and any decision to restrict, suspend or terminate the contractual relationship or account of a person performing platform work, or of equivalent detriment, shall be taken by a human being; workers have a right to an explanation of automated decisions, to a contact person, and to a review with a reply within two weeks. The recitals note that algorithms increasingly replace managers' functions such as allocating tasks. It binds member states and applies from late 2026; it does not measure how riders are managed today.
What this means
Dealing with the platform is being written into EU law as something a person must stand behind: the algorithm may allocate and monitor, but cutting a rider off must be a human decision, and the rider can ask a human why.
