Where this applies
United Kingdom. Based on conversations with market participants, the committee's review of principal trading firms and systematic hedge funds says that currently, where such techniques are deployed, they are implemented largely as rules-based systems with human-in-the-loop, and warns that the reasons for positions may not be well understood by human risk managers at the firm. It gives no figures.
What this means
A central bank's view of trading firms is that AI is deployed with people still in the loop — and that the harder risk is people not understanding what the models do. That is an argument for the quant who can explain a model, not against the role.
What it does not yet show
A review based on conversations, without figures; it does not measure quants' work.
What you can check
Open the Bank of England's April 2025 Financial Stability in Focus on AI and find "rules-based systems with human-in-the-loop".
Does it change the assessment?
No. The impact index is never moved by a single event. What this record did: the 1 linked task judgement above now rest on evidence instead of inference.
