Where this applies
A research method for generating in-between frames of cartoons. The authors say traditional methods often fail on the exaggerated, non-linear and large motions with occlusion common in cartoons, present a generative approach, and design a flexible sketch encoder that gives users interactive control over the interpolation results. It is a lab result; it does not show studio use.
What this means
Machines can now draw plausible in-betweens for cartoon motion, with a person guiding them by sketch — the assistant's job becomes steering and correcting.
What it does not yet show
A research result; not a measure of production use or employment.
What you can check
Open the ToonCrafter paper on arXiv (2405.17933) and find "flexible sketch encoder".
Does it change the assessment?
No — and this stage does not move it either. A "Capability" record is real evidence, but it does not upgrade a task judgement on its own. The 1 linked judgement above stand where they were.
