Tasks this bears on
The community
Replying to comments, running the live chat, moderating, and being someone the audience feels they know.
Still human-led✓ Evidence-backed
Where this applies
United States. The rule makes it a violation to purchase or procure fake indicators of social media influence that the buyer knew or should have known to be fake, where used to misrepresent influence for a commercial purpose; indicators include followers, subscribers, views, plays and likes, and fake ones include those generated by bots. It is a binding trade regulation rule; it concerns faking an audience, not how creators engage with a real one.
What this means
The cheapest automation of a community — bots that follow, watch and like — is now a violation in the US when bought to look influential. The audience a creator can sell to sponsors has to be real people.
What it does not yet show
A US rule against faking an audience; it does not measure how common fake followers are or how creators run their communities.
What you can check
Open 16 CFR 465.8 on eCFR and find "Purchase or procure fake indicators of social media influence".
Does it change the assessment?
No. The impact index is never moved by a single event. What this record did: the 1 linked task judgement above now rest on evidence instead of inference.
