Evidence stage
ConstraintFailure, rollback, regulation or cost is suppressing adoption. Can lower an assessment or widen its uncertainty.
Tasks this bears on
Checking age and serving alcohol responsibly
Checking ID, judging whether someone has had too much, and refusing service when the law requires it.
Still human-led✓ Evidence-backed
Taking orders and payment
Taking orders, handling payment and passing tabs between staff.
Being augmented✓ Evidence-backed
Where this applies
New South Wales, Australia. The regulator's code of practice for self-pour alcohol systems says that because selling liquor happens when a card or token is issued or topped up, this must be done by bar staff trained in responsible service of alcohol, and that venues should have at least one dedicated marshal to monitor the system at peak times, including checking the age of anyone who looks under 25. Compliance with the code is a condition of the licence.
What this means
Self-pour walls move the pouring to the customer and keep the selling decision with trained staff.
What it does not yet show
One state's code for self-pour systems; it says nothing about how common they are.
What you can check
Open Liquor & Gaming NSW's Self-pour alcohol systems code of practice and find "RSA-trained bar staff".
Does it change the assessment?
No. The impact index is never moved by a single event. Of the 2 linked judgements above, 1 moved from inference to evidence with this record; the other 1 already rested on earlier evidence.
