Evidence stage
ConstraintFailure, rollback, regulation or cost is suppressing adoption. Can lower an assessment or widen its uncertainty.
Tasks this bears on
Treating patients on scene
Resuscitation, airway care, giving drugs, splinting, and lifting and moving patients in homes and on roads.
Still human-led✓ Evidence-backed
Writing the patient record
Writing up the assessment, treatment and handover in the patient-care record.
Being augmented✓ Evidence-backed
Where this applies
United Kingdom. The regulator's standards of proficiency for paramedics, updated standards in effect from 1 September 2023, require registrants to make reasoned decisions to initiate, continue, modify or cease treatment or the use of techniques or procedures, and to record the decisions and reasoning appropriately. The standards do not mention AI; they keep the decision and its record with the registered paramedic.
What this means
Whatever drafts the notes, the regulator holds the paramedic responsible for the decision and its record.
What it does not yet show
One country's professional standards, which do not address AI directly.
What you can check
Open the HCPC Standards of proficiency for paramedics and find "record the decisions and reasoning appropriately".
Does it change the assessment?
No. The impact index is never moved by a single event. Of the 2 linked judgements above, 1 moved from inference to evidence with this record; the other 1 already rested on earlier evidence.
