A mixed-methods study with 19 design students and professionals using Midjourney and DALL-E for concept ideation and revision. Generative tools gave diverse and rapid visual stimuli, but designer input and customisation received the lowest scores while designers considered it the most important category, and originality and creativity were also areas where AI performed poorly; the authors name biases, IP concerns and usability as challenges.
