Evidence stage
CapabilityA demo, benchmark or paper shows the task can be done. Updates what the technology can do — not what employers will do.
Tasks this bears on
Taking and screening X-rays
Taking bitewing and periapical X-rays and spotting what the dentist should look at.
Being augmented✓ Evidence-backed
Where this applies
United States. The FDA clearance describes computer-aided detection software for dental health professionals as an aid in detecting findings on bitewing radiographs including caries, calculus and periapical radiolucency, and reports that multi-reader studies showed statistically significant aided-reader improvement in detection accuracy across four features. The studies were the developer's.
What this means
On X-ray screening, AI makes the reader better rather than removing the reader.
What it does not yet show
Developer-run reader studies behind a clearance; not a measure of practice.
What you can check
Open FDA 510(k) K210365 and find "aided-reader improvement".
Does it change the assessment?
No — and this stage does not move it either. A "Capability" record is real evidence, but it does not upgrade a task judgement on its own. The 1 linked judgement above stand where they were.
