Pilot driving schools may use in-car AI teaching equipment that takes over part or all of the instructor's guidance on closed training grounds, Shanghai's transport commission said

Shanghai. The transport commission's pilot notice defines in-car intelligent teaching equipment, used for the basic and training-ground part of the national syllabus, that partly or fully takes the place of the instructor's in-car guidance. Pupils may drive such cars alone on a separate, closed training ground; the school must keep safety monitors with instructor qualifications at a live monitoring centre and on-site instructors equal to 20% of the equipped cars, at least 2. Each equipped car adds one unit to the school's approved training capacity. Only schools with at least 50 training cars and the top quality rating may apply; the pilot runs to 30 June 2026 and the notice reports no results.
