Tasks this bears on
Monitoring and knowing when to escalate
Watching a patient over hours, integrating what the monitors say with what you see, and calling the doctor at the right moment.
Being augmented✓ Evidence-backed
Where this applies
Netherlands, intensive care after cardiac surgery. In a preplanned secondary analysis of a randomised trial of 220 patients, critical alarms per monitoring hour were similar with automated and conventional ventilation (5.6 vs 5.7), while nurses made fewer manual interventions per hour for ventilation control with automated ventilation (0.7 vs 1.9) and rated it more acceptable. It covers the first hours after surgery in one specialised setting, not ward nursing.
What this means
Automation takes some hands-on adjusting away from intensive-care nurses, but the alarms they must answer stay the same.
What it does not yet show
One trial in one specialised setting; it does not measure ward nursing or total workload.
What you can check
Open PubMed 39938276 (Intensive & Critical Care Nursing, 2025) and find "nurses' acceptance".
Does it change the assessment?
No — and this stage does not move it either. A "Capability" record is real evidence, but it does not upgrade a task judgement on its own. The 1 linked judgement above stand where they were.
