Home ventilation telemonitoring, with an algorithm raising alerts and specialised nurses acting on them, lowered blood carbon dioxide against usual follow-up, France's eVENT trial found

Evidence stage
PilotSmall-scale trial in a real setting. Tells us the deployment conditions are being tested, not that they hold — so one pilot is never enough on its own; two independent ones are.
Tasks this bears on
Home ventilation and chronic care
Setting up home ventilators and oxygen, teaching patients and families, and following up people with chronic lung disease.
Being augmented≈ Platform inference
Where this applies
France, adults recently started on home non-invasive ventilation. In the telemonitoring group a CE-marked algorithm generated alerts from teletransmitted ventilator data and specialised nurses managed the alerts and gave therapeutic education. Of 53 patients analysed, the primary outcome, night-time transcutaneous carbon dioxide at six months, did not differ, but arterial carbon dioxide was lower with telemonitoring. An exploratory trial; the people acting on alerts were nurses.
What this means
Home ventilation follow-up can move to remote alerts, but the alerts still need a trained person to act on them.
What it does not yet show
A small exploratory trial in one country, with nurses handling the alerts.
What you can check
Open PubMed 40169180 (Thorax, 2025) and find "Specialised nurses managed alerts".
Does it change the assessment?
No. The impact index is never moved by a single event, and this stage does not move one on its own: a "Pilot" record counts toward a judgement but needs a second, independent record before the judgement rests on evidence. This one is counted; on its own it changed nothing.
