Where this applies
Virginia, United States. The statute says no person other than a dentist, dental hygienist, dental assistant I or II, digital scan technician, or other person under a dentist's direction shall obtain dental scans; a digital scan technician is someone who has completed a board-approved training programme to take scans for teledentistry. The final regulation, effective March 25, 2026, requires the delegating dentist to be accessible and available for consultation with the technician at all times. One state; it widens who may scan rather than automating it.
What this means
Scanning is a task the law spreads across assistants and a new technician role, not one handed to machines.
What it does not yet show
One state's rules; other states and countries differ.
What you can check

Does it change the assessment?
No. The impact index is never moved by a single event. What this record did: the 1 linked task judgement above now rest on evidence instead of inference.
