Evidence stage
ConstraintFailure, rollback, regulation or cost is suppressing adoption. Can lower an assessment or widen its uncertainty.
Tasks this bears on
Monitoring labour
Listening to or tracing the baby's heart rate during labour, reading the trace and deciding when to escalate.
Still human-led✓ Evidence-backed
Where this applies
England. Reviewing evidence on computerised interpretation of fetal heart traces in labour, the guideline committee says one-to-one care should not be replaced by automated interpretation alone, that such software could be over-sensitive and prompt inappropriate responses to alarms, and that in the absence of evidence of clinical and cost effectiveness it would make no recommendation on the technology. The current guideline (NG229) still contains no recommendation for such software.
What this means
England's guideline body has kept labour trace interpretation with people and declined to recommend the software.
What it does not yet show
A guideline review in one country from 2017; it does not cover newer software.
What you can check
Open NICE CG190.1 (February 2017), section 4.9, and find "should not be replaced by automated interpretation".
Does it change the assessment?
No. The impact index is never moved by a single event. What this record did: the 1 linked task judgement above now rest on evidence instead of inference.
