Evidence stage
DeploymentAn employer has put it into production. Can move the baseline — weighted by scale and how similar the setting is.
Tasks this bears on
Identity, fraud and compliance checks
Verifying who someone is, spotting the customer being coached through a scam, filing the reports the regulator requires.
Being augmented✓ Evidence-backed
Teaching customers the digital channels
Sitting with someone and getting them onto the app, safely, so they do not need to come back for the routine.
New task✓ Evidence-backed
Where this applies
Singapore. The bank's own release says it would move half its tellers into digital or advisory roles within two years, with redeployed tellers becoming branch digital ambassadors, service executives or advisers; that its digital ambassadors had converted 30 per cent of seniors at one branch to digital banking since December 2017; and that when a customer needs a transaction approved at a machine, a notification goes to the ambassador's tablet and the ambassador approaches the customer, quickly verifies their identity and approves the transaction. One bank in 2018; the 30 per cent is one branch, and it does not say whether the roles still exist.
What this means
At one bank, teaching customers the digital channels became a job for former tellers, who also check identity in person.
What it does not yet show
One bank's 2018 plan, with one branch's figure and nothing on what happened since.
What you can check
Open OCBC's media release of 23 July 2018 and find "will become branch digital ambassadors".
Does it change the assessment?
No. The impact index is never moved by a single event. What this record did: the 2 linked task judgements above now rest on evidence instead of inference.
