Where this applies
United Kingdom. The regulations say a person may not sell or supply a prescription-only medicine except in accordance with a prescription given by an appropriate practitioner, and that an optometrist independent prescriber is an appropriate practitioner for any prescription-only medicine except special-medical-prescription products and medicines given by injection. Regulation 214 was last amended on 31 December 2020. It covers drug treatment only, and only optometrists with the prescribing qualification.
What this means
In the UK, when managing an eye condition means prescribing a medicine, a named qualified person has to write the prescription.
What it does not yet show
Medicines only; monitoring and referral are not covered, and most optometrists do not hold the qualification.
What you can check
Open regulation 214 of the Human Medicines Regulations 2012 and find "An optometrist independent prescriber is an appropriate practitioner".
Does it change the assessment?
No. The impact index is never moved by a single event. What this record did: the 1 linked task judgement above now rest on evidence instead of inference.
