Running the design calculations
Working out loads, sizing beams, columns and foundations, and checking the result against the code — increasingly inside analysis software.

Where this applies
Japan, larger buildings. The Architect Act says an architect who is not a structural design first-class architect must ask one to confirm that the structural design complies with the structural provisions, and must do so again when part of the structural drawings changes; and that the structural design architect must record on the drawings whether compliance was confirmed and sign with that title. The current wording (signature without seal) has applied since 1 September 2021. Buildings only, not bridges or roads; the licence is the Japanese architect's, not a civil engineer's title.
What this means
In Japan, whoever or whatever produces the structural calculations, a named, specially licensed person has to check and sign them.
What it does not yet show
Japanese buildings only; it is a check-and-sign rule, not a rule on how the calculations are produced.
What you can check
Open the Architect Act on e-Gov, go to Article 20-2, and find 「構造設計図書の一部を変更した場合も同様とする」.
Does it change the assessment?
No. The impact index is never moved by a single event. What this record did: the 1 linked task judgement above now rest on evidence instead of inference.
