Tasks this bears on
Periodontal assessment and charting
Probing and recording pocket depths, bleeding and recession around each tooth.

Where this applies
Minnesota. Among the procedures a licensed dental assistant may perform under general supervision, the rule lists completing preliminary charting of the oral cavity and surrounding structures with the exception of periodontal structures, and says an assistant must not perform any procedure not otherwise authorized. The wording came in with the Board of Dentistry's rules adopted at 46 SR 908 (notice of adoption published 7 February 2022; under Minnesota law a rule takes effect five working days after that notice, so 14 February 2022); the 2018 version already excluded periodontal probing and assessment. It draws the line between people; it says nothing about devices or software.
What this means
In Minnesota the periodontal chart is not delegated even to the licensed assistant beside the chair; it stays with the hygienist or dentist, whatever tool records it.
What it does not yet show
One state's delegation rule; it does not address voice charting, digital probes or software, and it is about assistants, not about whether hygienists use AI.
What you can check
Open Minnesota Rules 3100.8500 on the Revisor's site and find "with the exception of periodontal structures" (subpart 1, item J).
Does it change the assessment?
No. The impact index is never moved by a single event. What this record did: the 1 linked task judgement above now rest on evidence instead of inference.
