DeploymentAn employer has put it into production. Can move the baseline — weighted by scale and how similar the setting is.
Tasks this bears on
Floorplanning, placement and timing closure
Placing blocks and cells on the die, routing them and iterating until the chip meets its power, performance and area targets.

Where this applies
Google DeepMind's own account of AlphaChip in production: it reports layouts used in every generation of Google's TPU since 2020 (v5e, v5p and the sixth-generation Trillium) and in Google's Axion CPUs, and quotes a MediaTek senior vice president saying MediaTek extended AlphaChip for its own advanced chips. The post shows bar charts of wirelength reduction and designed-block share across TPU generations but gives no percentage figures in the body text, no total chip count, no measurement of engineers' time, and no headcount change. The MediaTek line is a quoted endorsement from a company using the tool, not an independent audit. This is a living page (schema dateModified later than datePublished); the claims checked here (TPU generations, Axion, MediaTek) were already present in the earliest archived copy found, from 2025-11-06.
What this means
Google itself now says AlphaChip-designed floorplans run in production across every TPU generation since 2020 plus its Axion CPUs, and a MediaTek executive says MediaTek extended the same tool for its own advanced chips — moving physical design from a contested research claim to disclosed, multi-company production use.
What it does not yet show
It does not say how many physical-design engineers' jobs or hours changed at either company, gives no percentage figures for the wirelength or time savings in the text, and does not show whether engineers still set every constraint and close the design by hand — the site's own independent-review record still has human experts beating the tool on most large, macro-heavy designs.
What you can check
If you work in physical design, ask whether your own team's placement or floorplanning flow runs any ML-based optimiser today, and how much of the floorplan it actually generates versus what you still hand-tune.
Does it change the assessment?
No. The impact index is never moved by a single event. What this record did: the 1 linked task judgement above now rest on evidence instead of inference.
