Australia's central bank says its economists use an in-house AI tool to search and summarise firm liaison intelligence and produce briefings

DeploymentAn employer has put it into production. Can move the baseline — weighted by scale and how similar the setting is.
Tasks this bears on
Research and writing
Reviewing the literature, writing papers and reports, and presenting findings.
Being augmented✓ Evidence-backed
Where this applies
Australia, one central bank. The bank's own research paper says its text analytics and retrieval tool, created in late 2022 and in use to support economic analysis, lets analysts filter, query and aggregate about 25 years of liaison messages at scale, after which staff extract insights and produce on-demand briefings for executives; and that it will always remain critical for economists using the tool to interrogate, validate and apply judgement to its outputs. One team's work; no change in economists' hours is measured.
What this means
At one central bank, finding and summarising the evidence for a briefing is done with an AI tool, and the economist's job is to check and judge it.
What it does not yet show
One institution's own paper about one team; it does not show AI writing the papers or any change in time.
What you can check
Open RBA Research Discussion Paper 2025-06 and find "The new tool was created in late 2022 and is being used to support economic analysis".
Does it change the assessment?
No. The impact index is never moved by a single event. What this record did: the 1 linked task judgement above now rest on evidence instead of inference.
