ConstraintFailure, rollback, regulation or cost is suppressing adoption. Can lower an assessment or widen its uncertainty.
Tasks this bears on
Difficult patients and unexpected findings
Getting usable images through difficult anatomy, and noticing something the request did not ask about and extending the scan to show it.
Still human-led✓ Evidence-backed
Where this applies
Ontario, Canada. The regulator's standards say registrants must be proficient in evaluating the images, data and tests to ensure they are satisfactory, that those practising diagnostic medical sonography must determine whether images are of sufficient diagnostic quality or additional or repeat images are necessary, and must record and communicate their observations and technical impressions to the reporting health professional. Effective 1 December 2025. It does not name unexpected findings, and it does not bar guidance software.
What this means
In Ontario, deciding to scan more and flagging what was seen is the sonographer's own duty.
What it does not yet show
It does not name unexpected findings or rule out software that helps.
What you can check
Open CMRITO's Standards of Practice (effective 1 December 2025) and find "record and communicate their observations and technical impressions".
Does it change the assessment?
No. The impact index is never moved by a single event. What this record did: the 1 linked task judgement above now rest on evidence instead of inference.
