Evidence stage
DeploymentAn employer has put it into production. Can move the baseline — weighted by scale and how similar the setting is.
Tasks this bears on
Checking the prescription is safe
Interactions, doses, allergies, duplications, the thing the prescriber did not know about the patient.
Being augmented✓ Evidence-backed
Where this applies
Tennessee, United States. The hospital pharmacy's own poster says auto-verification uses rule-based algorithms to determine which orders can be verified without a pharmacist review; it lists categories always auto-verified (such as imaging contrasts, radiopharmaceuticals, emergency and post-anaesthesia orders) and categories never auto-verified (orders with high or very high importance warnings and medicines such as systemic antibiotics), and estimates the time saved. One hospital, rule-based rather than AI, with data from September 2021; it says nothing about community pharmacy.
What this means
In a large hospital, low-risk orders pass by rule while the risky ones still reach a pharmacist.
What it does not yet show
One hospital's rule-based system, not AI, and nothing about community pharmacy.
What you can check
Open VUMC's poster 'Analysis of Auto-Verified Medication Orders' and find "verified without a pharmacist review".
Does it change the assessment?
No. The impact index is never moved by a single event. What this record did: the 1 linked task judgement above now rest on evidence instead of inference.
