The UK exam boards' joint council says an AI tool cannot be the sole marker of assessed work: a human assessor must review all of it and stays responsible for the mark

Evidence stage
ConstraintFailure, rollback, regulation or cost is suppressing adoption. Can lower an assessment or widen its uncertainty.
Tasks this bears on
Marking and written feedback
Grading a stack of essays or problem sets and writing a comment on each that the student will actually read.
Being augmented✓ Evidence-backed
Where this applies
United Kingdom. The exam boards' guidance to heads of centre, teachers and assessors says that where centres permit AI tools to mark student work, an AI tool cannot be the sole marker; a human assessor must review all the work in its entirety and determine the mark it warrants regardless of the AI's output, and remains responsible for the mark or grade; its appendix states that teachers must not use AI as the sole means of marking candidates' work. It covers assessed work for regulated qualifications, not everyday homework, and allows AI as an aid.
What this means
For marked coursework in the UK, AI may help but a teacher must read everything and own the mark.
What it does not yet show
Assessed coursework only; everyday classroom marking is not covered.
What you can check
Open the JCQ guidance 'AI Use in Assessments' and find "an AI tool cannot be the sole marker".
Does it change the assessment?
No. The impact index is never moved by a single event. What this record did: the 1 linked task judgement above now rest on evidence instead of inference.
