Evidence stage
DeploymentAn employer has put it into production. Can move the baseline — weighted by scale and how similar the setting is.
Tasks this bears on
The ride through the city
Getting from A to B on a bike or scooter through traffic, weather and construction, fast enough to keep the rating.
Being augmented✓ Evidence-backed
Loading, recovering and supervising delivery robots
Where robots or drones operate, someone loads them, retrieves the stuck one and handles the delivery it could not finish.

Where this applies
Two UK cities in December 2025, 'from select merchants', with additional European markets stated for 2026 and the US for 2027 — so most of the announcement is plan. Uber Eats already worked with two other sidewalk robot companies, Serve and Avride, so this is a third partner rather than a first move. The robots travel no more than two miles and typically deliver in under 30 minutes, which is the constraint that decides where they can work at all. The nearly 3,000 robots and more than 270 locations are Starship's own claim and cover its whole business, not the Uber partnership.
What this means
A platform that already worked with two sidewalk robot companies added a third. That is a statement about the platform's direction rather than about any one robot: the short order within two miles is the shape of job being moved, starting with select merchants in two cities. What is left is the rest — stairs, buzzers, tower blocks, rain, the drop that needs a person to make a decision.
What it does not yet show
Two cities and select merchants is not a rollout, and nothing here counts a courier. Starship's fleet figure covers its own whole business, not this partnership — 3,000 robots is small next to the number of people delivering food in any one large city. The two-mile limit has not moved.
What you can check
Watch your own order mix rather than the announcements. If the short, central, ground-floor drops start disappearing from your queue while the awkward ones stay, the substitution has arrived at your patch whatever the press release says — and your earnings per hour will move before your order count does. Ask which merchants in your city are on the robot list; that list, not the city, is the unit of the rollout.
Does it change the assessment?
No. The impact index is never moved by a single event. Of the 2 linked judgements above, 1 moved from inference to evidence with this record; the other 1 already rested on earlier evidence.
