Where this applies
Australia. The diagnostic imaging services table says that, apart from two items, its ultrasound items apply only if the procedure is performed by a medical practitioner or, on a medical practitioner's behalf, by a person entered on the Register of Sonographers kept by Medicare. Read in the compilation in force from 1 July 2026. It is a funding condition on who performs the scan; it does not say who must handle unexpected findings, and it leaves scans outside Medicare unrestricted.
What this means
In Australia, a funded scan needs a qualified person holding the probe, whatever software guides it.
What it does not yet show
A funding rule about who performs the scan, not about what happens with a finding.
What you can check
Open the Health Insurance (Diagnostic Imaging Services Table) Regulations (No. 2) 2020 and find "entered on the Register of Sonographers".
Does it change the assessment?
No. The impact index is never moved by a single event. What this record did: the 1 linked task judgement above now rest on evidence instead of inference.
