Tasks this bears on
Assessment and treatment planning
Taking a history, spotting reasons not to massage, planning treatment and knowing when to refer someone on.
Still human-led✓ Evidence-backed
Where this applies
Ontario, Canada. The regulator's standard of practice says the registered massage therapist must obtain informed consent before conducting an assessment, assess the patient using their knowledge, skills and professional judgement to determine whether massage therapy is indicated, develop a treatment plan from that assessment, and refer the patient when another practitioner can better address their needs. It binds registered therapists in one province; it does not reach unregistered spa massage, and it says nothing about what machines can do.
What this means
In Ontario, deciding whether and how to treat a patient is the registered therapist's own professional act.
What it does not yet show
One province's rule for registered therapists; it says nothing about spa massage or about tools that support the assessment.
What you can check
Open the CMTO Standard of Practice: Patient-Centred Care and find "using the RMT's/MT's knowledge, skills and professional judgement".
Does it change the assessment?
No. The impact index is never moved by a single event. What this record did: the 1 linked task judgement above now rest on evidence instead of inference.
