Tasks this bears on
Portraits and events
Photographing people, weddings and events in person.
Still human-led✓ Evidence-backed
Where this applies
Canada, passport applications. The government's photo requirements say photos for adults and children must be taken in person by a commercial photographer or photo studio, including the digital photo used for online renewal; that they must be original photos not altered or edited in any way, which includes photo editing software, filters and AI tools; and that applications with altered photos will be rejected. It covers identity photos only, not other portraits or events. The page's own date is 23 September 2026; the requirement may be older.
What this means
For one routine kind of portrait, the state requires a photographer in the room and refuses machine-made or machine-edited images.
What it does not yet show
One country's identity-photo rule; it says nothing about wedding, event or commercial portraits, or about how many people now buy portraits at all.
What you can check
Open Canada's Passport photo requirements page and find "be taken in person by a commercial photographer".
Does it change the assessment?
No. The impact index is never moved by a single event. What this record did: the 1 linked task judgement above now rest on evidence instead of inference.
