Where this applies
South Australia, one container terminal. The enterprise agreement, approved by the Fair Work Commission and operating from 29 October 2025, says that when lashing and unlashing of containers is required, subject to the ship's master, the work shall be carried out by employees; that at least one lashing leader is allocated to each shift that works a vessel; and that lashing leaders must be able to perform lashing duties themselves. It does not ban automation; a separate clause sets up consultation if the company automates.
What this means
At this terminal, lashing is contractually the employees' work, done by a crew with a leader on every ship.
What it does not yet show
One terminal's agreement; it allows the company to propose automation after consultation.
What you can check
Open agreement AE530858 on the Fair Work Commission site, go to clause 28.7.1, and find "such work shall be carried out by Employees".
Does it change the assessment?
No. The impact index is never moved by a single event. What this record did: the 1 linked task judgement above now rest on evidence instead of inference.
