Ubisoft's agreement with Canadian performers bars it from replacing a performer's character lines with their voice replica without separate signed consent, and requires session pay if it does

Evidence stage
ConstraintFailure, rollback, regulation or cost is suppressing adoption. Can lower an assessment or widen its uncertainty.
Tasks this bears on
Performing characters for animation and games
Creating and performing characters — reactions, efforts, emotion — often in sessions with a director and other actors.
Still human-led✓ Evidence-backed
Where this applies
Canada, one game publisher. The collective agreement covers vocal digital replicas used to generate new performances in lieu of the performer that are identifiable as that performer, including in a character role; it says the performer's consent must be in writing, clear and separately signed or initialled, that if Ubisoft uses a replica to generate scripted lines it must pay at least the minimum voice fee for the sessions the performer would reasonably have needed to record them in person, and that it must reach a further agreement with the union before creating replicas for real-time generation. It does not cover generic synthetic voices that are not identifiable as a specific performer.
What this means
At this publisher, a game character's voice cannot quietly move from the actor to a copy of the actor; it takes the actor's signature and still pays for the sessions.
What it does not yet show
One publisher's agreement in one country; it does not limit synthetic voices that imitate no one in particular.
What you can check
Open the ACTRA–Ubisoft memorandum of agreement and find "separately signed or initialed by the Performer".
Does it change the assessment?
No. The impact index is never moved by a single event. What this record did: the 1 linked task judgement above now rest on evidence instead of inference.
